Game Blog Post 1: First Playable
Racing Nightmares
This is a racing game where the player will need to race through the track before the timer ends. If players did not finish the race before the timer, nightmares will get to them.
I am the artist and the designer of the game. I did the models and also the textures for the models in blender.
First player:
The first player that played my game said it was cool that we made a 3D game. One thing that needed to change was the sensitivity of the controls. When the player tries to turn, the turn is not so sharp and the action delays.
I asked them what they thought about the screen angle view, they thought the angle was too low. They couldn’t see the road ahead of them. They said it would be better to see the picture ahead instead of the car. They also said the coloring and lighting in this game do not match the title. If the title is about “nightmares” then the theme should be darker.
Second Player:
The second player really likes where we are going with the game. they thought the idea was great, it was just a matter of finishing the game and fixing little nic-nacs. They also comment on the action delaying when going forward and backward, also turns not being sharp. They also comment on the texture of the road being confusing because it looks like a glitch.
I asked them the same question about the angle view, they also said it was too low. But it could also work as a challenge to the players, not being able to see the road ahead of them until they are close enough to react to the different turns.
What I will change:
There are many things we need to change in the game. We need to change the theme and also the layout of the game. The track doesn’t look like a race track, it just looks like a road. I also need to change some of the textures we used so it is not that confusing to players. We need to change the bright theme to a darker theme. One thing my partner needs to do is to fix the controls, delay time, and sharp turns.
